Prison in Korea

If you feel stressed, you would never think to go to jail to relax. However, in South Korea, there is people wanting to try this unusual treatment provided by the Hongcheon center, about 70 km northeast of Seoul.

The center is called "the prison within me", and the idea comes from an ex-lawyer, Kwon Yong-seok, who explains: "I never managed to take a break from work, I was not able to control my life."

That's why he thought to go to jail to rest: he asked a friend, a prison director to let him spend a week in jail. The request was denied, but Kwon decided to find  another way and build his personal prison for him and for all those who need to "switch off" and fight stress. The idea was immediately a great success, to the point of allowing Kwon to raise from family and friends almost $ 19 million, needed to construct the building.
Customers (who must turn off cell phones), are given a uniform upon arrival, and then are taken to a small cell (less than 6 m) with only one bathroom, a sink and a small table. Meals are served through a hatch in the door.
