This course covers three main topics: 1) ground survey measurements, 2) global positioning System (GPS)) and geodetic (remote sensing) techniques and automated mapping with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) The basics of land surveying include leveling, distances and angle measurements to calculate orthometric heights relative to a vertical datum and 2-D Cartesian coordinates in a horizontal datum for engineering projects. Photogrammetry topics include photo scaling and coordinate calculation. This course introduces surveying, civil engineering, and environmental engineering students to the basics of plane surveying.
